Writing

I’ve written for a variety of outlets both in print and online, including a regular column for The Guardian, and articles for Medium, QuickBooks, SheKnows, Earth 911, and Pure Green Magazine.

My areas of interest include motherhood, Eco-friendly living, humour, and overwrought navel-gazing.

My first book, All You Need Is Less, was published in April 2014 by San Francisco-based Viva Editions, and many kind things were said about it, including:

“With a chatty, friendly, guilt-free tone, All You Need is Less offers a plethora of ideas for living a greener, healthier, more eco-friendly and sustainable lifestyle.”
—City Book Review

“Top eco-blogger and new parent Madeleine Somerville has gathered completely original ideas on how to save money and the planet and have fun in the process.”
Edge Magazine

“Funny, honest, eloquent, non judgmental and practical… what else could we want from a book on eco-friendly living?”
–Bea Johnson, author of Zero Waste Home: The Ultimate Guide to Simplifying your Life by Reducing your Waste

I just wanted to say thanks for your wonderful book “all you need is less”.
I caught myself ‘lol’ on numerous occasions and had a perma-grin throughout. Your approach to environmental solutions was both heartwarming and humorous, with conscious intent of making a difference.
    Truly inspired,
    Kristi

I received “All You Need is Less” as a birthday gift and just finished reading it today. It was such a fun and informative read that is really in line with my own life goals (and made me feel less crazy haha). I will definitely be pulling this off my shelf to reference in the future and use it to help me ease my friends and family into making greener choices along with me. You’re such an inspiration for me to keep going down the green path and a great author to boot!
