Soooo President Trump is has done a ton of shit-awful things in his first ten days, Olive seems to be talking EXTRA a lot lately, and I woke up this morning to find that my license plate had been stolen.
Did you know that was a thing? I didn’t, but hey! Apparently, that’s a thing! The more you know…
Anyway! In the face of all this bullshit, some wonderful things have also happened in this, the first month of 2017, that make me think this will be an A+ year.
Firstly, I learned how to french braid. I’m 33. Nonetheless, let’s celebrate this small victory and the fact that I’ve been wearing french braids for the past three days and maybe the next eighteen.
Second! Olive started gymnastics class and it is the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. Rocking around trampolines and balance beams, refusing to try things and refusing to try things and then eventually trying them and nailing them! Looking SO. SERIOUS as she practices her safety landings. It makes my day every single week.
Third! I began two new writing gigs, which I shall tell you about now.
The first is writing blog content for QuickBooks, the accounting software. (Anyone who knows me and/or my math skills is side-eying my involvement, BUT! I assure you I was straight up about that during the interview and was assured that writing skills were what mattered.)
My job will be to write feature profiles of entrepreneurs, make confusing accounting principles easy to understand and work with a team of other writers to empower small business owners.
I’m very excited to take this on – I’ve wanted to branch out from the Eco-friendly writing sphere for a while now and I always welcome the opportunity to sink my teeth into a new topic. Learning keeps me fresh and the fact that I’m new to the subject means I’ll be able to clearly explain concepts to others without skimming over crucial info or lapsing into jargon or technical terms. I start writing this week, so look for the first few links on the Sweet Madeleine Facebook Page.
The second gig is as opposite as opposite can be – I took a position as an entertainment features writer at SheKnows. This involves writing articles about celebs, gossip, TV, and pop culture. I KNOW.
I started last week and holy jesus is it fun. Some articles are super light and fluffy – like this one where I fangirl over Celine Dion – and other times I can’t keep my thoughts on the continued political fuckery contained and I end up weaving current events and celebrity news into one piece, like this one on #SadMelania or this one about the Muslim Ban. It can be a fun outlet when the world gets too heavy, other times it’s a chance to let celebrity behaviour spotlight issues or dynamics that need more attention.
And that is the briefest of brief updates.
Oh! And I have also started working on my butt. Look for a Kardashian booty comin’ atcha Summer 2017.

Awwwww thank you, Kris!! Maybe I’ll get sent to Australia some day and I can come visit you
Wtf! Who steals a license plate!?
Right?? I’m learning so much about so many ridiculous things lately. Sigh.
I’ve followed your blog and loved it for a long time now, but a few weeks ago I came across a picture you posted of Olive and her grandfather….and realized he’s the super cool man that comes to play darts every week at the pub I work at….what a small world!!!
Haha, that’s incredible! Yeah he goes every Monday with my sisters husband! Say hi to him for me next time he’s in
Wow, two new jobs! Congratulations. Trump doesn’t seem to be stopping at all, he’s now busily pissing off his closest allies, starting with Australia. Politics is so weird right now that I’m scared to look at the news. I find I have to pace myself, or it gets too much. Gardening’s a sanity saver and I’ve taken up maths again, And started writing for my blog again, about my other sanity saver, mathematics. I’ve found this great book, written by a local teacher, about maths. Selling like hotcakes here and the kindle copy is free for the next two days – maybe you should try it if you want to brush up?
