All You Need Is Less

Lazy Sunday.

(Now featuring extra laziness because I’m pretty sure I have used that title before. Sigh.)

Hi, y’all! I am trying to figure out how to run my life – my blog life – and best manage the All You Need Is Less blog, and this one. I don’t really feel like maintaining two entirely separate ones – I mean, it kind of feels too complicated. I have to write twice, you have to follow twice and check twice. We’re all here already! Why reinvent the wheel? Plus what if something hilarious happens that has to do with the book and then I am stuck sitting here paralyzed with indecision, because I don’t know where to post it? What THEN?

On the other hand, I know that this book is sort of incidental to the blog. Many of you are probably here to read about Olive, or Adam, or Gus, and don’t particularly care about eco-friendly stuff, or what strange kitchen ingredient I use to polish my stainless steel. And that’s ok! I know it can be annoying when a blogger gets something goin’ on the side and then suddenly the blog you know and love – and the blog that afforded them this awesome opportunity in the first place – totally changes and you feel sad inside and like you just lost a best friend to their lame new boyfriend.

No? Just me?

Well. Regardless, things are ramping up with my book being released in under a month- EEEEP! I am planning on doing a few giveaways, starting some heavier promotion, etc. and I’m wondering what you want to see. Do I keep the book blog for reference, the tour schedule, media stuff etc. and keep the fun stuff here? Do I separate the two entirely? Do I create some sort of complicated Venn diagram situation? Do I set the whole thing on fire?

Seriously this is a BIG DEAL. Think about it. Then do my fancy poll.

And NO, this whole post is not just because I’ve been messing around in my site and discovered poll functionality and then fell in love with this badass skull and crossbones background and needed to find a way to use it. How dare you. Now vote please. or be annoyed with me forever.

    Hi Madeleine, sweet! 😉
For me personally, I’d be like, STUFF doing two blogs! You’re going above and beyond for your fans, but I don’t know how you find the time.
I’m still fairly new to blogging so am unsure if I’m breaking an unspoken rule – and possibly alienating readers on a regular basis – but my blog doesn’t really focus on one particular subject. I write about the kids (most often I think!), our travels, my photos, stuff I like, people I love, my old diaries… I just categorise each post and figure if people aren’t interested in that category they won’t read it. It’s your voice and your style that I enjoy reading, which is consistent whatever the subject matter, so you wont’t turn me off if you decide to merge blogs. Having all your posts together might encourage people to widen their interests too! Xx

Yeah, Michelle! STUFF two blogs! I don’t say that enough. STUFFFFF IT!
LOL. I think a hodgepodge is good, good lord if people in real life have to put up with the eleventy seven topics I talk about it, so does The Internets 😉
Thank you for your feedback 🙂

I think it is super challenging to keep two blogs going (as I do not make it a priority to post on one of my own); however, I don’t want personal you to get lost in the book excitement. Don’t get me wrong — I am TOTALLY excited to “know” another real-life author, but what draws me to your site is YOU and your crazy family and your personality. It just seems that when people go big, there is so much focus on the professional. And I want to read YOU. This does not give you a direction, does it? Just a comment.

Plus, I don’t think you can type EFF so many times on a fancy book blog 😉

Totally agree. I think this is what I was worried about too – losing the voice of it all – not to sound too artisty.
I tried to say effing mothereffer and other such swears in my book but they were redacted. Sigh. 😉 at this point I don’t think I could be professional if I tried – plus the book is written in this same tone. That is to say, sometimes useful, sometimes introspective, sometimes (hopefully) funny, and sometimes telling stories about Adam luring me into traps with trails of chocolate. So.

Well, I had a good long think about it, and voted. Do what you want. If you continue to write in the same voice, you’re sweet. We could all do with learning a new trick or two. But I still think there should be more Gus. Just sayin’.

When some one searches for his essential thing,
therefore he/she desires to be available that in
detail, so that thing is maintained over here.
